
Jamaica’s most celebrated sportswomen, entrepreneurs, parliamentarians, nurses and teachers will be among the women who will be highlighted in a photographic exhibition dubbed She’s Royal, staged by the Planning Institute of Jamaica as it marks the OAS Inter-American Year of Women. The exhibition will be officially launched by the Institute’s newly appointed Director General, Dr Gladstone Hutchinson on Thursday, July 29, 2010 in the Don Mills Training Room at 10:00 am. Participating in the launch activities will be Organization of American States (OAS) Director, Dr Joan Neil along with Executive Director, Bureau of Women’s Affairs, Mrs Faith Webster and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mrs Maria Jones. The week-long exhibition which will be mounted until Thursday, August 5, 2010 will be followed by a Learning Hour presentation in September on the topic: Influence of Women on Societal Outcomes with Particular Focus on the Male Child. The OAS proclamation of 2010 as the Inter-American Year of Women seeks to promote a broad mobilization in the Americas towards an assessment of the achievements and challenges in defending the human rights of women and gender equality, as well as increasing public awareness of these issues. |
