Second Quarter Registers Flat Performance, says PIOJ 19/08/2008
The economic performance for the second quarter — April to June 2008 — was relatively flat compared with the corresponding period last year, with real GDP declining by an estimated 0.2%. Declines in output in Agriculture, Mining and the Manufacturing sectors contributed to an overall decline of 0.9% in the Goods Producing sector. The performance of the economy over the period, October–December 2007 was flat, with real GDP recording an estimated 0.0% growth relative to the corresponding period last year. Positive performances were recorded in Construction & Installation, Distributive Trade, Real Estate & Business Services, Miscellaneous Services (which includes Hotels, Restaurants & Clubs) and in the Finance & Insurance Services sectors. Agriculture and Mining continued to be impacted by the effects of Hurricane Dean. This contributed to an overall decline of 3.0% in the Goods-producing sector.
